Rumours about Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S27 Ultra, are gaining momentum as insiders suggest the device will arrive with a significant upgrade to its main camera system. According to recent leaks, the phone is expected to use a new ISOCELL HP6 sensor, which would build on Samsung’s existing imaging technology while introducing notable improvements.
The information comes from well known industry leaker Ice Universe, who has claimed that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will include an ISOCELL S5KHP6 sensor for its primary camera. Early reports describe it as a 200 megapixel unit with an optical format of around 1/1.3 inches, similar in size to the HP2 sensor used in recent models. However more advanced processing features and new technologies are expected to be part of the upgrade.
Rather than increasing the physical size of the sensor, Samsung appears to be focusing on deeper innovations within the chip itself. These may include enhanced high dynamic range capture, improved noise reduction and faster image processing, all of which could yield better photo and video quality under a wide range of conditions.
Analysts believe Samsung’s approach reflects the competitive landscape in mobile photography, where other manufacturers are adopting larger sensor formats while still pushing image quality forward. By concentrating on silicon level enhancements and computational photography improvements, Samsung could maintain strong performance without altering the overall camera module dimensions dramatically.
In addition to the primary sensor, there are suggestions that other cameras on the rear of the Galaxy S27 Ultra may see upgrades, potentially including a higher resolution ultrawide unit and improvements to telephoto lenses. These enhancements would form a more comprehensive imaging package suited to creative and professional users alike.
At this stage the details remain speculative and subject to change, as Samsung is still expected to launch the Galaxy S26 series first. Industry watchers will be watching closely for further leaks and official announcements ahead of the likely launch in early 2027.
