Recent rumours circulating online have suggested that Taiwanese technology company ASUS may begin producing its own RAM in 2026, potentially marking a major shift in the global memory industry. The speculation has attracted significant attention from PC enthusiasts and industry watchers, but ASUS has since moved to distance itself from the claims.
The rumours emerged amid continued high prices and limited supply of DDR5 memory, largely driven by growing demand from AI servers and data centres. Some reports claimed ASUS was considering entering the RAM market to secure a stable supply for its own products, including gaming laptops, desktops and motherboards.
If true, such a move would place ASUS alongside established memory giants such as Samsung, SK hynix and Micron. Supporters of the idea argued that a new player could help ease supply pressures and increase competition in the consumer market.
However, industry analysts were quick to express scepticism. Manufacturing RAM chips — specifically DRAM silicon — requires enormous investment, advanced fabrication plants and years of specialised experience. ASUS is primarily known as a systems and hardware manufacturer, not a semiconductor producer, making the rumour seem unlikely to many observers.
ASUS has since officially denied the reports, stating that it has no plans to begin manufacturing RAM chips or to invest in memory fabrication facilities. The company reaffirmed that it would continue to rely on partnerships with existing memory suppliers rather than producing its own silicon.
Some experts note that confusion may have contributed to the rumour. While many companies sell RAM modules under their own brand, these modules typically use memory chips made by other manufacturers. ASUS already works closely with memory suppliers and could expand branded memory products without making the chips themselves.
For now, there is no confirmed evidence that ASUS will enter RAM manufacturing in 2026. While the rumour highlights ongoing concerns about memory supply and pricing, ASUS’s public response suggests its business strategy will remain focused on product design and integration rather than chip production.
