As Formula 1 prepares for a transformative 2026 season with new power units, sustainable fuels, and stricter regulations, the Aston Martine Aramco Formula One Team (AMF1) is leveraging artificial intelligence to gain a competitive advantage. Central to this effort is its strategic partnership with Cognizant, the technology leader that has supported the team since 2021.

The collaboration blends Cognizant’s expertise in AI, cloud computing, data analytics, and machine learning with Aston Martin’s racing legacy, extending far beyond sponsorship to real performance gains.

A Deep Dive into AI’s Role on the Track

In a recent five part Tech Talks series released in September 2025, AMF1 leaders including CEO and Team Principal Andy Cowell and Cognizant’s Prasad Sankaran  revealed how AI processes massive real time telemetry data to deliver actionable insights in hours instead of days. This rapid cycle turns data into new car parts which provides a critical edge in development.
Key applications include:
-Digital twins for simulating car performance and human physiology.
-Smarter predictive analytics and simulations
-Handlin petabytes of data for faster, more informed decisions.

As AMF1 CIO Fabrizio Pilotti explained, Cognizant’s data strategy positions the team to fully harness AI, directly translating to a faster car.

Gearing Up for 2026 Regulations

The 2026 rules introduce a 50/50 power split (350kW electric boost, no MGU-H), active aerodynamics, lighter/nimbler cars, and 100% sustainable fuels, demanding a full redesign and tight chassis power unit integration for Aston Martin’s new Honda works partnership.

AI is key to this shift: digital twins and advanced simulations enable rapid testing of hybrid systems, energy management, and aero modes, compressing development cycles. As the team prioritizes 2026 over 2025 upgrades, these tools are supported by the AMR Technology Campus, this positions Aston Martin Aramco to capitalize on the regulatory reset under Adrian Newey’s leadership.

Through Cognizant, AI is not just preparation it’s the foundation for leading in Formula 1’s next era.
