Elon Musk has revealed that Tesla could reach a major development milestone for its next-generation AI6 chip as early as December.

The milestone, known as “tape-out,” is a critical stage in chip development where the design is finalized and sent to manufacturers for production. According to Musk, advancements in artificial intelligence could help accelerate the process, potentially allowing Tesla to hit this timeline.

The AI6 chip is expected to play a key role in Tesla’s future innovations, particularly in self-driving vehicles and humanoid robots. As Tesla continues to expand beyond electric cars, these chips could become the backbone of its AI-driven ecosystem.

Manufacturing of the chip will be handled by Samsung Electronics, which previously secured a multibillion-dollar agreement to produce advanced ch ips for Tesla. The company plans to use its cutting-edge 2-nanometer process technology for production.

Despite the possibility of a December tape-out, mass production is still some time away. Industry expectations suggest that large-scale manufacturing could begin in the second half of 2027, highlighting the gap between design completion and full deployment.

If successful, Tesla’s AI6 chip could significantly boost the performance of its autonomous systems and robotics, positioning the company at the forefront of next-generation AI hardware.
