Apple has released the first public developer beta of iOS 18.5 just days after launching iOS 18.4. The update is not expected to introduce major features, especially with iOS 19 approaching, but it will likely include minor refinements to existing tools, including Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence features require an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any model in the iPhone 16 lineup, including the upcoming iPhone 16E. Supported devices can use AI tools to generate custom emoji, proofread emails, summarize Safari articles, prioritize notifications, analyse transcripts, and reduce interruptions. Siri also gains AI enhancements through integration with ChatGPT.

More broadly, iOS 18 introduced a redesigned home screen, customizable Control Center, locked and hidden apps, scheduled messages, a new password manager app, satellite texting, and a revamped Photos app.

Apple also offers a free tier of its Apple Developer Program, allowing anyone with an Apple ID to download developer betas without paying the traditional $100 annual fee.
